Bioseq

Biology is opening a new route to critical minerals.

Critical minerals will increasingly be recovered not only from new mines, but from material we have already mined: tailings, mine water, industrial residues, batteries and electronic waste.

The science exists. Bioseq is building the Project Decision Sheet to show what applies to your material, which biological routes have stronger evidence, and whether the next spend is justified.

Bioseq Discovery: a private assessment in two days. No cost during this test round.

Hundreds of years of mining and industry have created an enormous above-ground resource.

But metal in a waste stream is only a possibility. A recovery case must show that the biology applies to this material and can produce an output the project can use.

It could change what counts as a mineral resource.

Knowing your stream is half the decision.

Biological recovery has a commercial record in copper.1 But a sound result on one feed does not establish that the same biology will recover your metal from your material, under your conditions, as an output your project can use.

Bioseq is building the other half: a governed comparison of biological routes across organisms and mechanisms. We check each result against what was actually tested — feed preparation, pH, temperature, metal concentration, competing ions, scale and measured output. Then we ask whether that evidence carries over to your project, or whether another route has stronger support.

The Project Decision Sheet

Bring us a proposed route, a target metal or a material stream. The sheet is being built to show:

The decision

Your material, target metal, required output and the next spend you are considering.

The comparison

Which results and routes are relevant, what they actually demonstrate and where their evidence stops.

The determination

Whether the evidence justifies further characterisation, testwork or a pilot, and what must be demonstrated before more capital is committed. If it does not support the proposed route, Bioseq says so.

Each conclusion traces to its source and the rules used to assess it. A scientist can see their result treated fairly. A project team can see whether it applies. A board or lender can inspect the reasoning before money is spent.

Bioseq has no recovery technology to promote and no preferred route. If the evidence does not justify a pilot, we say so before the money is spent.

Bioseq Discovery

We’re testing Bioseq Discovery to explore biological recovery opportunities before commissioning recovery experiments.

This saves time and money by focusing experiments on promising recovery routes and identifying weak assumptions early.

Tailings, mine waste, processing residues or drainage water? We welcome submissions based on the information you already have. You do not need a proposed biological route.

Start with a short description and tell us what assays, mineralogy or chemistry you have. You can anonymise the site and begin with non-confidential information.

We will review the available evidence to identify:

  • metals and biological recovery routes worth investigating;
  • organisms, consortia or preparations worth evaluating;
  • the tests and missing measurements that matter to the next decision.

Cases receive a private Discovery assessment preview and supporting evidence within two days, at no cost during this test round.

If the available information or scientific evidence is insufficient, we’ll explain what is missing.

This is an initial opportunity screen. Site-specific recovery yields and commercial viability still require validation.

Built to be challenged.

Bioseq uses AI to find, structure and connect scientific evidence. AI does not decide the result, and it has no authority to turn a plausible statement into a fact.

Governed rules, evidence provenance and explicit scientific constraints determine what Bioseq can and cannot conclude.

When the evidence does not support a proposition, Bioseq refuses it. When evidence is missing, Bioseq identifies what needs to be measured next. Where a conclusion needs specialist scientific judgement, Bioseq flags it for a human expert rather than filling the gap automatically.

The system is designed not merely to produce answers, but to know when an answer cannot yet be justified.

Put a real recovery question through Bioseq.

Evaluating a biological recovery project, investigating a metal, or exploring the recovery potential of a material stream? Submit the case.

Submissions are open, at no cost during this test round. Discovery cases receive a private assessment preview and supporting evidence within two days. If the available information or scientific evidence is insufficient, we’ll explain what is missing.

“Site X” is enough. Start with non-confidential detail. No call required.

For mine and waste-stream owners, processors, recyclers, engineering contractors, research teams, remediation authorities and investors deciding whether a material should be tested, engineered, funded, or stopped.

Send us what you have.

Start with a short description of the material or stream and the analysis you already have. For Discovery, you do not need to know the target metal or propose a biological route. Add operating conditions, test results or the decision you need to make if you have them.

Initial case
Optional. “Site X” is sufficient.
Describe the material or stream and tell us what analysis you already have. A short description is enough to start.
Additional technical details

Answer what you can. Leaving something blank is a valid answer, and what you don’t yet know is often the useful part. If you would rather not use this form, send a data sheet or a short description directly to martin@bioseq.io.

One or more can be put forward.
Tailings, slag, process residue, ash, brine, effluent, recycled material, or other.
A range is fine.
Whatever you have, however partial.
If you are considering a specific organism, mechanism or published result, name it. If you are asking us which routes are worth considering, leave this blank.
Bench, pilot or plant trials, biological or conventional. Include what did not work.
For example assays, XRD, ICP, particle size, leach tests or a plant data sheet.
A leach solution, a concentrate, a precipitate, a saleable product, or a cleaned-up residue.
For example: whether to fund bench work, whether to pilot, whether a proposal you have received holds up, or whether this stream is worth characterising at all.
Paste compositions, operating conditions, observations or other information that helps bound the case.
Access to your data within Bioseq is limited to the people assessing the case. Information is not published, disclosed to other participants, added to the reusable evidence corpus or used to train a general model without written permission. Your Discovery assessment will identify any further information needed. Read the privacy notice for how submissions are handled and retained.

By submitting this form, you acknowledge that you have read the privacy notice and understand how this submission will be handled.

Bring us the route, the target, or the stream.
